New Google Assistant Features That Prove Voice Search Is The Future!

Once upon a time people were content to use their keyboards to type out a search query, but as Bob Dylan would say, “the times they are a-changin’”. Yes, in today’s digital landscape it seems that voice search is now the preference when it comes to discovering answers to our queries.

Not only are 20% of  US-based searches (made with Google’s Android app) done so via voice search (according to Google’s 2016  I/O speech), but US stats also show that 41% of adults and more than 50% of teens use this form of search on a daily basis (Northstar Research, 2014)!

As a result of this push, Voice Search has continued to advance in its ability to understand more natural and unique language searches/commands (including long-tailed keywords), such as, ‘Where can I find takeaway Chinese food on Wickham St, Fortitude Valley?’ or ‘Text Jessica to meet me at home at 5’— and ‘Google Assistant’ is no exception.

First unveiled during Google’s May 2016 I/O event, the virtual assistant aims to replace Google Search, along with everyday queries you’d usually go to an actual human or personal assistant for. As well as being able to recall things you’ve asked it to remember (such as passwords), the Google Assistant ‘Chefling’ feature can even remind you when your food at home is about to expire, and then help you create a recipe from leftovers in your fridge!
