5 Ways to Get The Most Out Of Your Facebook Business Page!

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been almost a decade since Facebook made its transition from a strictly social network to a business platform.

Since introducing their Business Pages in 2007, followed by the option for users to ‘become a fan’ in 2009, brands have flocked to the site in droves. This was a significant step in Facebook’s journey, and brands are now more willing than ever to invest heavily in their advertising and social networking in order to grow their ‘fan’ base.

Every year a diverse range of businesses find success on the platform; from reality stars and bloggers, to retail giants and small to medium enterprises in every industry you could think of. However, that said, there is a knack to creating a successful online presence – after all, not just anyone can amass a following of thousands of loyal followers!

So, what’s the trick to increasing your Brand’s Facebook following?

According to Facebook’s Business page, there are many different ways to do so,  however today we’ll be focusing on 5 easy Facebook Business tips & tricks for increasing engagement.

1. Use Video & Images to increase Engagement

Did you know that people who watch product videos are 64% more likely to buy a product online (comScore)? It’s true! But when you think about it, it’s really not that surprising. After all – how much easier is it to watch a video or look at an interesting image than to read a few paragraphs of black and white copy? Using visual content is one of the best ways to engage your followers.

It’s also a good idea when posting product images, to make it more personalised – for example, using images of people using your products as opposed to stock images. The more it looks as though your customers enjoy your service or product, the better!

If you do happen to post copy along with your images or videos (or even without), Facebook recommends you keep your posts between  100 and 250 characters. The shorter & more succinct the better!

2. Ask questions
How often have you been lured into commenting on a random person or business’s status because they’ve asked a question that interests you? It’s human nature to want to share our thoughts and opinions, and the same principle applies to your customers. No matter whether it’s a loyal customer or a potential new follower, an internet user is more likely to engage with you if you’re asking for their opinion. So what are some easy ways you can start engaging your customers?
Firstly, invite your audience to share their thoughts and feedback on your products and services. Not only will your customers feel that you listen, but it will also give you great insight into improvements that can be made.

3. Know the right times to post your content
Before deciding on the best times to post, you first need to know your target market. For example, are the majority of your followers local to your location? If you have a niche market for Japan, but you’re constantly posting between the working hours of Brisbane in Australia, then you might run into some issues. However, assuming that your audience is Australian and in the same timezone as your business, you’re best to keep your Facebook posts between 1pm and 4pm (Newscred). You might be a night owl, but that doesn’t mean everyone else is!

If you’re worried about not having enough time in the day to be posting on Facebook, use an online tool such as Hootsuite to schedule your content.

4. Review your Insights
This one is so important! If there’s one thing you do, make sure you regularly check your Page Insights. This section of your Facebook is vital for helping you to understand what is and isn’t working, who your posts are reaching, and how engaging your content is.  Remember, businesses are built on catering to what their audience wants and insights are the key to understanding just this.

5. Find Creative Ways To Get Around Algorithm Favouritism.
Because of the way Facebook’s algorithm works, it’s possible that your target audience may be missing your updates, even if they’re a follower of your page. This is due to the fact that Facebook’s algorithm ranks posts based on their relevancy to a user’s interests. For Facebook users who follow hundreds of people or groups, this could mean that your content is so far down their feed that they’ll never see it.

BUT, don’t worry – there is something you can do.

Firstly, post your content frequently. Now, when I say frequently, I don’t mean spamming your audience with 20 posts per day. Instead, try posting consistently – once per day each day of the week.
It also pays to find a way to utilise trending or popular content in your marketing plan. A perfect example of this is the way in which small to medium sized brands jumped on the PokemonGo bandwagon earlier this year, using memes, creative advertising, and even turning their stores into ‘pokestops’ to lure in fans of the game (read more from my previous blog post on PokemonGo).
